This beautiful park established in 1974 as a recreation area, then later adopted national park status in 2000. For years, this area used to be massive dumpsite for GM, Ford, Chrysler, and 3M. Follow it’s finding the EPA promptly declared this as Superfund site due to a significant amount of toxins and was closed off to the public in 1986. Huge cleanup effort follow years later and still has yet been completed. The rivers and waterfalls still have traces of dioxin, mercury, and PCBs. But watching Mother Nature gradually reclaim the national park, there are some levels of redemption one can feel here after all.
